I always have three pairs: my pair that I would feel comfortable meeting a dignitary in, my kick around pair, and my work pair that I don't mind dripping some paint on. One of my goals in life was to find a pair of sandals that I could wear without pain. I have been suffering with heel pain and wear orthodics in my shoes. I havr been wearing Birks for several years, all year long. I now have both my daughters wearing them, and they both have several pairs. My daughter, Ronda, is a nurse in Texas, and she and several of her nursing friends wear the white Bostons at work, and say their backs and legs hold up much better during a 12 hour shift now that they wear Birkenstocks.
